Go Old School
Sometimes it seems that technology is changing the way we communicate faster than our ability to keep up with it. And new technologies in smart phone apps, social media and other great communications technologies means that sharing information is done faster and more efficiently than ever before.
However, despite new technology, one of the best practices that a school or district leader can employ is very basic but often overlooked.
As an educational leader, you a VIP in the minds of students and parents and people like to see you in person.
With that in mind, take time to regularly go where parents gather, perhaps in front of school when students are being dropped off.
Bring your business cards and meet and greet parents. Remind parents that if there is anything you can do to make the educational experience better for their child, to contact you.
Technology is terrific. But as an educational leader, making an old-fashioned personal and in-
person connection is among the most important engagement efforts you can make.
