Construction Underway on New Indianola High School Following Successful 2022 Referendum Campaign

Construction is in full swing on the new Indianola High School, a transformative project made possible by the successful passage of a $70 million bond referendum in 2022, which was supported by a strategic communications campaign led by Donovan Group.

The new facility, currently rising next to the existing high school, is designed to be the heart of the student experience, offering collaborative spaces, modern learning environments, and expanded areas for athletics and the arts. District leaders and community members toured the site recently as work continues to progress toward a 2026 opening of the main academic wing.

“We’re proud to have partnered with Indianola Community School District on the communication strategy that helped inform and engage voters ahead of this successful referendum,” said Jerry Gallagher, Partner, at Donovan Group. “Seeing the new high school take shape is a powerful reminder of what communities can accomplish when they come together to invest in education.”

The new building includes features specifically requested by students, such as open commons, modern gathering areas, and a campus layout centered on connection and collaboration. As part of the district’s “Replace in Place” initiative, portions of the existing high school will be demolished once the new wing opens, with some facilities, such as the auditorium and North Gym, remaining in use.

Project leaders and construction teams from Edge Commercial and INVISION Architecture anticipate major milestones in the coming months, including the installation of the exterior façade and classroom finishes. A new competition gym is planned as the final component of the phased project, with completion projected between 2028 and 2029, depending on funding decisions.
