Free School Safety Webinar to Offer Practical Strategies for Prevention, Response, and Recovery
The Donovan Group, in partnership with Safe and Sound Schools, will host a free School Safety Webinar on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. EDT via Zoom.
This 45-minute session will provide school leaders, educators, and community partners with practical strategies to strengthen school safety through prevention, response, and recovery.
The webinar will feature Michele Gay, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Safe and Sound Schools, who became a nationally recognized school safety advocate following the tragic loss of her daughter in the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. Michele will be joined by Dr. Lori Mueller, partner at the Donovan Group and former K-12 school superintendent, with facilitation by Jerry Gallagher, also a Donovan Group partner.
Together, the presenters will explore pressing safety concerns, the importance of comprehensive safety and crisis communication planning, and the role of community partnerships in creating safe and supportive school environments. Attendees will also learn about often-overlooked components of safety planning, such as reunification templates, as well as strategies for supporting student mental health while maintaining a welcoming climate.
“School safety must be comprehensive and proactive,” said Dr. Mueller. “This conversation will give participants practical tools and proven frameworks they can take back to their schools and communities to better prepare, respond, and recover, without losing sight of the importance of creating safe, welcoming spaces for students and staff.”
By the conclusion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the most pressing safety concerns facing schools today and evaluate their readiness.
- Apply Safe and Sound Schools’ six-component framework to create or revise a safety plan.
- Recognize essential elements of a crisis communication plan and address common gaps.
- Strengthen mental health support while maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.
- Explore strategies for engaging families, law enforcement, and community partners in safety initiatives.
